Does anyone know of a web site that could help me train a horse for free ( no buying packages and stuff)?

cpennertz asked:

I just got another horse, her name is Lacy. At her old home, she was riden 14 years ago, never again after. She’s greenbroke, and i wanted her for my mom to ride. But she needs some more experience. I need a helpfull website that could give me tips and lessons on training her again. Just the basic stuff too, nothing too fancy, just walking and turning, troting and loping is all i need for now, once i get those acomplished i’ll find something for her but until that point what do I do?

    Try Western Horseman.com or Horseandrider.com
Or even pick up some copies of their magazines. They are usually helpful.

there is no easy way to learn how to train a horse.
i have been training horse or involved in such work from the time i could walk to date and i am still learning.
a horse that has been trained and then n ridden for a long time is barn sour and can be more dangerous than a new horse.
Find a good trainer in your area that uses a hands on method. you hands not his. so you can learn what the horse is being trained to do along with the horse.

For such simple requests as turning and walk/trot transitions I’d suggest simply buying a book. Don’t be cheap, just buy “101 Area Exercises” These exercises will help you supple the horse and teach it transitions. I assume you already know the basic cues, like inside rein, outside leg to lope, which you can easily teach to your new horse through repetition and praise when she gets it right.

Your question sounds very beginner and it is troublesome that you would buy another horse without knowing how to train it. Ignorance ruins more horses than evil intentions. I very strongly suggest you rely on a trainer to come to you to teach you how to train the horse. You will get invaluable experience and train your mom’s horse at the same time. That’s hella better than any book. ;)

    Good luck!

If you can’t afford a trainer, you can’t afford an untrained horse!!!!!!
You can view it as an expense or an investment. It amazes me where people choose not to spend money… I have seen more horses tortured unintentionally by well meaning amatures trying to cut the trainer out..
Trainers are professionals who can educate you, train your horse, and make equipment recommendations. Pay someone for their help.
