Horse Training Problems./Riding Issues?

i have a 9 year old Morab who hasn’t been worked very much over the past year and a half because of bad habits and disrespect.

this has put an halt to our riding. i asked her to canter while lunging and she bucked and bolted right at the cue. (is this normal?)

a problem i often have while lunging her is she gets very close to me while i’m standing in the middle. and she used to only do this at a walk but now at a trot she is making small circles around me. i want her to fill the round pen and ride on the fence. she never does.
how can i get her to get out of my space and onto the rail?

she also is very disrespectful when it comes to hoof picking. she won’t pick up her foot and always puts up a fight. when i get to her hind she usually kicks….

and in the saddle:

she is distracted and always is paying attention to the other horses who are grazing or in their paddocks. she always wants to ride the side closest to them. how can i get her to be more focused?

side note: i also would love to take her on some trail rides but how she’s acting in the ring, on the ground, and in the round pen i’m afraid that that would be a mistake. whats a good way to introduce a horse to trails who has problems such as my mare’s?

thank you for your two cents and advice. i will take everything into consideration to how to fix her problems.

Horse Training Help. Running Trot and breaks into Canter?

Hi..
I own a 10 yr. old “green” morgan horse… I got him this last January… and am currently working with him (we hope to eventually do some lower level eventing)… I do take lessons and work with an instructor as well… but I do allot of work alone at home with him… and I had a question…

He knows the cue for canter but he will continue to trot and then trot faster, and faster until he finally breaks into the canter… his canter is bueatiful once he’s in it but it’s just so frustrating for me.. my instructor has worked with me.. with him… but I didn’t know if there was anybody out there who has had similiar problems that has any ideas for me…
I would really appreciate it!! Thanks so much!!

horse training- distances, leads, and rushing?

A green horse I have recently started leasing has some ‘problems’ i guess you could say. When I jump her, she gets real excited and rushes to the fence. How do I get her to jump relaxed? She also takes long distances up to fences, would doing grids help? We are approaching the fence [small cross rail] at a trot. She also tends to canter out of fences, but she never really gets the right lead. And on ground work, it may take several tries to get it. I try and set her head to the inside adn use my inside leg, but she leg yields. So i dunno. Does anyone have any links to websites or first hand knowledge they can share with me?

I have a mare who used to be used for breeding. Other than breeding, people used to hop on her back and make her trot as fast as she could go around the farm. She did not understand cantering though. Now I bought the horse and have trained her to canter. I got her trot collected finally, but her canter is like galloping. I try circles, check and release and have tried to lunge her. Anyone know how to slow down my horse? And yes, I know it will take time.

horse training

I just got a Haffie in for training for 60 days to “polish” him up for show. I have known this Haffie for a while now and he has the same personality of my personal Haffie. STUBBORN. He is really sweet and great with kids. Just a overall GREAT horse. The only thing that is “wrong” is the “abnormally stubborn – i am going to do what i want to do when i want to do it”.. Anyways…
I am taking the horse in for training for 60 days and he is a 12yr old that has always had that streak in him and has gotten away with a lot of things with his owner. I am trying to work on his headset in the lope and have him be consistent in the lope.
What i mean by consistent, is that he continues his “lope” everytime he is in the lope. You ask for the lope for 10 strides. then jog him. then lope him for another 10 strides; he will be either faster or slower than he just loped at.
Also, he knows his lead changes and is very solid in the simple lead changes. His owner really wants me to work with h
His owner really wants me to work with him on his flying lead changes. For the past 2 weeks, he will only change when he wants to change, after i set him up. It is as if he says, “I will change when Im good and ready”.
I really know that this will take much longer than 60 days to work with, but i at least want to make some more progress with him.
I have worked with many many different horses with different personalities, but he is the most stubborn horse i have ever met. He is more stubborn than my own Haffie (and that says a lot!). Once this horse gets into his “working mode” he is awesome.. But I have only had two sessions that that happened in and it was for a 5-10 minute span…

Notes:
- A more level headset at the lope
- A consistent lope (not canter-ish. lol)
- To perform flying lead changes without having him change on his own wherever he wants

Thanks everyone,
Ashley

p.s. my personal Haflinger, is really starting to love to turnaround.. the only problem
the only problem is when he gets excited about spinning, he wants to run out of the turnaround.. which then ends up me getting on the reins and then him rebeling with a turn on the forehand… He wants to run out of the turnaround and when i pick up on the outside rein slightly, he will swap both ends… like he is trying to play ping-pong or something… i have run out of all the techniques that i know of (and that have worked in the past). It is mainly when i ask him for more speed (or when he gets “stuck”)… i only ask for more speed when he is performing the turnaround correctly before i ask for more speed. He is a stubborn little booger.

Basically:
Running out of turnaround, and swaping ends when in the turnaround.
