horse training question/ throwing head?

I am training my 3 year old paint gelding. He has just started out and I am finally at the point where he SOMEWHAT knows what to do. He goes just fine. Stopping is sort of a chore, but we are working on that. When turning he sometimes throws his head around to protest. I dont want this to become a habit. Is this okay and is he just doing this because he is just getting used to everything, or could this become a problem? I do not want to use a tie down, so please do not state that as an option because that will not help when training. Thanks everyone
I do not want to use a martingale…it is pretty much the same as a tie down… I would like to figure out some sort of technique
I’m using a broken bit and not pulling to hard…it just seems as if he is being stubborn (which he always is, even on the ground…but he is getting better)
he’s completely fine with stopping…he’s completely fine briddling him up and taking it off…and he does do turns….it just seems like sometimes he does this when he wants to go a different way or is getting annoyed
he has a pretty low set head… and I would perfer not to use a hackamore since he is just getting broke and he takes the bit just fine

Hunter horse training for dressage will go forward but not yet round?

I know you want the horse to go forward before you worry about head set and she goes foward and is pretty balanced. She is used to the flater hunter head set and when i pick up a stronger contact to ask her to be light in her front end and round she throws her head or is light and round for like 5 seconds and gets heavy on me. I lunge her in side reins several times a week. They are not really tight and she doesn’t hang on them. She will move out nicely but connot seem to get the correct head set with appropriate contact.
If i let her have a loser rein she goes around fine in a flat hunter head set. She was never really ridden with the correct contact before i bought her and now she is having a hard time accepting it. Their is nothing medically wrong with her and i won’t ride her in a martigale because they are not allowed in the show ring for dressage. If it helps the horse was previously ridden in a martingale. Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I work with several dressage trainers. My mare is 16’2 and wears a 82″ blanket so she would be considered to have a long back. Would this contribute to her having trouble “getting under her self” ?

I have tryed a coper snaffel and it didn’t work because she just resists any pressure. I want her to be a barrel horse but every time i put just a little bit of pressure on her mouth she throws her head up and pulls the reigns out of my hands. Any sugesstions?
I have already had a dentist look at her teeth and they are fine.
i don’t use a martingale at all i ride western and don’t even use a tie down. the tack that i have fits her fine i had a vet check it and her out so that i knew that she wasent doing this as a way of telling me that she was in pain of some sort. she just really has an attitude!
